Privacy

The short version: this site has no accounts, sets no cookies, runs no analytics, and sends nothing to anyone else. The longer version is below, because a short version you cannot check is worth little.

What we collect

Nothing that identifies you. There is no sign-up, no login, no contact form and no newsletter, so there is no account to hold and no address to lose.

The figures you type into the calculator and the comparison stay in your browser. They are never sent to a server, never written to a database, and never logged — the arithmetic runs on your own machine. Closing the tab discards them.

Cookies and storage

None. No cookie is set, nothing is written to local storage, and there is no consent banner because there is nothing to consent to.

Who else sees a request

No third party is contacted while you read a page. Fonts are served from this domain rather than from a font service, there is no analytics script, no tag manager, no embedded video and no social widget. The content security policy this site sends with every page forbids the browser from connecting anywhere else, so this is enforced rather than merely intended.

Our host sees your requests, as any host does: the page you asked for, your IP address, your browser’s user agent and the time. That is how a web server works and we cannot switch it off. We do not add to it, and we do not combine it with anything.

What we log

Our own application logs record what the software did — which page was rendered, whether an import ran, how long it took and whether it failed. They are written as structured records with identifiers stripped out before the line is produced, not after.

One case is worth naming because it is specific to this product. The Dutch vehicle dataset is keyed by licence plate, which identifies a vehicle and in practice a person. We use the plate only to join two tables in memory and then discard it: it is never stored, never hashed and never logged, and a variant in our catalogue is identified by what it is rather than by which car was registered.

Your rights

The GDPR gives you rights of access, correction, erasure and portability over personal data held about you. We hold none, so there is nothing to disclose, correct or erase. If that ever changes, this page changes with it, and it will say what changed and when.

When this changes

Adding anything that watches you — analytics, a cookie, an embedded service, an account system — means rewriting this page first, not afterwards. The about page explains how to get in touch if something here looks wrong.
